Our Solution: The Mobile Manicure Truck To expand our reach and bring wellness directly to survivors, DEMIblue Cares is launching a Mobile Manicure Truck. This innovative project will allow us to deliver low-cost, healthier manicure services to survivors at hospitals, community centers, and support group gatherings. Through programs like our "Painted In Strength-Survivor’s Spotlight Series," the beauty fundraiser experience, and our October give-back campaigns, we offer free nail services and product gifts to Breast Cancer survivors—reminding women that caring for themselves is not a luxury, but a vital part of healing and wholeness. In collaboration with a few of our partners; PCFRM and Sista Strut, we are able to provide educational resources to survivors in our community. FUNDRAISER DETAILS SURVIVOR STORIES SHARE YOUR STORY BOARD MEMBERS In 2010, my mother, Juliet Robinson, was diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump during a self-breast exam. She immediately followed up with her doctor, only to learn that she needed emergency surgery. What followed was a difficult journey through chemotherapy and radiation treatments that forever changed how she viewed her health, her body, and her life. I watched my mom lose her hair — and to this day, it has never fully grown back. I witnessed how cancer and treatment affected her confidence, her energy, and even her once-bubbly personality. But what impacted me just as deeply was what came after remission. Even years later, my mom struggled to find cosmetics she could safely use. The harsh chemicals in traditional beauty products caused severe reactions on her skin and nails, especially nail polish. Despite being in remission for over seven years, the beauty industry still wasn’t designed with survivors like her in mind. That’s when I knew something had to change. In 2017, I decided to create the solution the industry was missing. Using my background in healthcare and higher education, I developed DEMIblue Natural Nails — a clean, conscious nail care brand designed for women, survivors, and children who deserve beauty without compromise. Today, our community can express their style and personality through nails that are: *21-Free *Clean *Vegan *Safer for your body and your future And today, my mom is a 14-year breast cancer survivor. I salute you. I honor you. And I built this brand because of you, Mama. In 2022, we introduced 'The Juliet Box' (named after my Mom), a self-care, clean beauty box filled with hand-selected products with our survivors in mind. GIFT A SURVIVOR MAKE A GENERAL DONATION "PAINTED IN STRENGTH" BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR STORIES Joslyn Richardson July 2024: "Your biopsy results came back and they were positive for invasive ductal carcinoma." I heard the words that the nurse said, but she had to be talking to someone else. I've been diagnosed with breast cancer? I felt fine, just more tired than usual, which may or may have not been related. Later that week, I asked God, "What am I supposed to do now?" He said, "You keep on living." And at that moment, I felt tremendous peace. Later that month, my breast doctor confirmed that the diagnosis was triple-negative cancer, stage 1b. I found out later that there is no genetic link. I started chemotherapy that fall. 📌 October 2025: A year later, after 4 months of chemo infusions, three surgeries, radiation, 3 ER visits, and 6 months of oral chemotherapy, I completed treatment for breast cancer. When I rang the bell to signal the end of treatment earlier this month, it was also an alarm that I am not the same woman I was when I was diagnosed, in many ways. Greater faith, courage, boldness, strength, and wisdom. Not shortchanging myself. Setting boundaries. More compassion, empathy, and love. This story is a testament to my faith but also a reminder to do your monthly self-check and encourage others as well. In my case, my diagnosis was caught early. When I was diagnosed, I had already been getting yearly mammograms since 2021 as an under-40-year-old due to other benign conditions. If you have a family history of breast cancer, you may be eligible for early mammograms. Early detection saves lives. A bit of advice: Transformation is not always one dramatic emergence from a cocoon. Sometimes our lives contain many cocoons-seasons that stretch us, challenge us, deepen our faith, and reveal something new about who we are. We don't have to have the entire story figured out to recognize that God is at work. What we have already survived can reveal purpose in our lives and we can still have hope in what has yet to unfold. These experiences have changed my understanding of courage and faith. Earlier in my life, courage often looked like going somewhere new, taking a risk, or being willing to do what others around me had not done. Cancer taught me another kind of courage-the courage to surrender control, live with uncertainty, receive support, and trust God through circumstances I could not change. It taught me to truly take on the rest that I have in Christ Jesus.It is his love and peace that continues to keep and strengthen me. He's always been with me through the fire. Ashia Bell I was diagnosed October 22 with breast cancer. Dec I had surgery to remove the cancer and was told that chemotherapy and radiation was recommended. After completing all the treatments I have been set up on a plan to include MRI and mammogram every six month along with daily medication and injections every 3 months. I am blessed to be here because I did the testing, regular checks and mammograms and it was missed because I have sense breast so they hide. I found the lump while sleeping one night and I immediately called my doctor and the ball went rolling from there. I caught it very early and yes I questioned if I did something or if I could have prevented it. The doctor said it's very common and since being diagnosed I have had friends, coworkers and even my mother diagnosed soon after. It is a life long battle to remain cancer free. Attending appointments that are very expensive, taking meds that are very expensive, managing life (work, being a mother, supporting my mother) while dealing with this side effects that try to break your body down, weight gain, menopause. But get to do it over and over because God has allowed me another day and another day and another. I will continue to tell women know your body, advocate for your health and keep living. A bit of advice: Keep living, know your body, advocate for your health. Educate each other. Maggie Heidbrink "I was diagnosed with speech to invasive deductible carcinoma in February 2025. I’m a 49-year-old very active and healthy person who was shocked my their diagnosis. When considering what route to go for treatment, I found a doctor in California that approached cancer with a more holistic view. That was more aligned with my lifestyle than traditional standard chemo radiation. I became a patient of Dr Connealy’s in Irvine CA At her integrative cancer clinic the Cancer Center for Healing. I spent two weeks at her clinic in March 2025 having very in-depth testing done as well as preparing my body for my upcoming surgery. Then in April 2025, I had a double mastectomy and four lymph nodes removed. After healing from my surgery, I went back to Dr Connealy clinic And I was going to be seeing her weekly for low-dose chemotherapy. I Would be receiving 10 to 15% of a normal dose of the same chemotherapy drugs used in Standard treatment. The low-dose chemotherapy was delivered using insulin potentiation therapy, which is a very unique way to deliver the medicine. So every week I would fly to California on Tuesdays, Receive my chemo treatment on Wednesday morning, And then, right after chemo, I would lay in the red light Therapy bed After receiving a treatment called endolaser, which injects different light waves into your veins to help the chemotherapy be more effective. Than every Thursday morning, I would go back to the clinic to receive supporting IVs Before I would head to the airport and fly back home. So as you can see, I did things a little bit different. As a patient, we have addressed underlying root causes such as mold, candida, heavy metal toxins, parasites, Hormonal, imbalance, emotional stress and more. Being able to determine what caused my diagnosis was very important to me and why I decided to fly all the way to California. I’m now about a year and a half out from my surgery and living cancer, free and no evidence of disease. We monitor my status with follow ups every three month, including a very extensive blood panel and then also a Signatera test. This test looks for cancer DNA in my blood And is used because it can catch things before they escalate into a recurrence. I just recently went back to visit my doctor And have a maintenance therapy and treatment done called SOT Therapy. This is a personalized cancer serum created with my own blood teach teaching my body to find and kill any residual cells left over. So we will be monitoring my progress as this can last up to six months in my body I’m living as normal of a life as I can post cancer. I’m active and running my two gyms, raising my two teenagers and being a very active person myself The biggest lesson I learned from this diagnosis is that cancer can happen to anybody, even those of us living healthy lives. It also has taught me to slow down. Being a single mom of two and owning two business businesses, I have quite the full plate, which I love. But it is always go go go and extremely busy. My experience with cancer taught me to breathe deeply, not to rush from one event to the next all day long, And to really focus on peace and health in my life, mentally, emotionally and physically. I share my story on my Instagram page to help bring awareness to other women about things they can do to lower their risk and to talk about prevention and living a non-toxic life. PHYLLIS STEWART Ms. Phyllis Stewart was nominated by Tiah Tomlin-Harris, a former spotlight recipient and Breast Cancer Survivor. Ms. Stewart is a passionate advocate who has overcome being diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer and re-diagnosed 9 months later after ringing the bell. Thriving and Surviving is her middle name. Phyllis’s journey started in the spring of 2021 and completed in February 2023. She joined "My Style Matters" in the fall of 2021, this organization is dedicated to helping improve the health outcomes and overall well-being of individuals disproportionately impacted by breast cancer. She states "I remembered how chemo damaged her nails so badly that she kept her hands balled up so no one would see them". PAMELA TAYLOR Pamela was nominated by her Sister Cassandra Brown Bagley, According to Cassandra, “My sister was diagnosed with stage 0 cancer in I believe February of 2022. Thankfully, Pam (as we call her) stayed on top of her routine yearly mammograms. Her diagnosis was caught early; there was still a process. Pam was no stranger to doctor visits, hospitals or even surgery. To name a few, in 2018, Pam had a brain tumor removed, and in 2020, a liver transplant. She also is currently with a strong arm fighting lupus”. Cassandra states, “After Pam’s stage 0 breast cancer diagnosis, they scheduled a MRI and performed a successful lumpectomy. Pam has been cancer free for over 2 years now! Through all of this, which we know was scary and not easy, Pam kept the faith. She remained strong when weakness and doubt tried taking over. She is and has always been a person you can count on to be there for you. As a family we have had some very difficult losses hit us in the last 2 years. Some right at, unbearable…. But God” DR. NICOLE ROBINSON At the age of 28, I was in my prime, or so I thought: Marriage, son, dream career, and healthy. Six months after being married, a pea-sized lump was found in my right breast. The first doctor blew it off as a clogged milk duct, but after a third opinion from my OBGYN, he took the necessary steps to figure out what this mass was. I was told by my OBGYN, Radiologist, and Breast Surgeon that it was a benign tumor. But after my surgery to have it removed and biopsied... it turned out to be cancer, Stage 2B to be exact. The doctors were all sorry and could not believe at this early age I would have breast cancer. I was scared, and angry, but determined to beat it! After 4 surgeries, 16 rounds of chemo, and 28 rounds of radiation I thought that my life would go back to normal. No one really talks about how your life changes after cancer. There is no going back to your old life, you must learn how to deal with your new life that is filled with good and bad days, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and learning to love your new body flaws and all. Fast forward to February 2022, I am now 31 years old and just started a new job, and working towards getting my Master’s degree. After what I thought was the flu and going to urgent care, I find out that not only do I have Covid but after doing a chest x-ray, I have a mass on my right lung. My oncologist at the time was not worried, but how could you not be especially after my history? After my biopsy and pet scan, it was confirmed that my breast cancer was back and had metastasized to my lung and lymph nodes in my neck. I was devasted, like how could my cancer be back, I took the steps for it not to. But I was determined to not let this be a death sentence but to be an advocate and inspiration to all women, especially young women. I truly never understood what the phrase meant “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers” until I had breast cancer. Whether I like it or not this is my purpose, to educate, advocate and be a testimony to all! NANCEE ZIMMERS My journey with cancer has been interesting. It began in 2005, with a lovely trip to a B & B on Deer Mountain. When we returned from the trip, I got news of uterine cancer. I met with the doctor and had surgery on February 14. We returned to the B & B in January of 2007. When I returned, I was told I had breast cancer. Surgery was scheduled again for February 14. We never went back to Deer Mountain. Breast cancer prepared me for more to come. Cancer is interesting. I have had four more since then. It is all the trips to doctors' appointments, chemo, radiation and the whole package that accompanies cancer. No it is not fun, but you can’t pretend that it is not happening. One of my doctors told me that you go through tests and surgeries so you can live your life. The body that I have has changed enormously. I now even have a permanent stoma. Since I have decided to embrace the stoma I have named him Tony, because he is a gangster and shoots off a lot. We are usually friends, but not always. He actually stopped working and put me in the hospital for 4 days. I started this journey in 2005 my last cancer was 2021. I guess I would say talk with God, keep your family close, love them and cherish all of those that go through the journey with you. SMILE find your passion and don't give up. NICOLE JAMES Nicole had a family history of breast cancer, so she had been getting mammograms as early as the age of 35. In 2015 at the age of 42, she had a lump removed that was not cancerous but found the surrounding tissues to be cancerous. High-grade DCIS, no lump but many cancerous cells throughout the breast tissue. This was a crucial catch for her because it was caught early enough that she had choices for her treatment. Choices between radiation or a mastectomy. She chose a mastectomy. With the love, support, and prayers of her family and friends NICOLE is a 5-year survivor!! BERDNETTA BROWDEN I love to look back on my story not in sadness or pity but in Victory. I was originally diagnosed at the age of 30. I had a 6-year-old daughter that I was raised as a single mom and the doctors told me that I had the most aggressive form of cancer known at that time. I decided that I had too much to live for and decided to focus on beating the ugly monster. I had to complete 26 rounds of chemo, a lumpectomy, and 33 rounds of radiation. I was declared cancer-free and decided to start living very intentionally. I developed a personal relationship with God. Reevaluated my priorities and made sure that I moved in a manner to be a woman I wouldn't mind my daughter growing into. I often say I had to look death in the face to learn how to live. I stayed on top of things did my annual mammograms and in 2020 received the news that I had some precancerous cells in my breast. There was a tumor in my left breast and at that time I made the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy. I lost my breast but again I was able to live. And I take each day to be the best me I can be. April 10, 2023, is my 15-year survivor date! ANASTASIA STEVENSON I received a positive breast cancer diagnosis on February 22, 2019. I was 33 years old, married for ten years with three children younger than 10. I was reasonably healthy and committed to climbing the corporate ladder as I had begun a new role with a new company one year prior. I discovered one lump on February 4 in the shower during a self-exam, which was only encouraged by the Holy Spirit. Post the mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy. The breast specialist confirmed Stage 2B, invasive ductal carcinoma, as my official diagnosis. My treatment plan included a port-a-cath placement to receive 16 rounds of chemo, followed by a bilateral mastectomy, 28 rounds of radiation, and a total hysterectomy. My life changed, and I gradually shifted from 'why me' to 'why not me.' Who was I to determine the way God could use me? I don't believe God gave me cancer, but I believe He allowed it. Every doctor, nurse, patient tech, emergency room staff, and many others that were a part of my team blessed my family and me. These people consoled me and talked me through every step of the journey. They answered questions and wiped tears. They held me up when I did not have the strength to do so. I hit bottom and clawed my way back up through this journey. God has shown His faithfulness and proved what I know to be true – He will never let the righteous be forsaken (Psalm 37:25). I didn't choose cancer, but I'm thankful for the opportunity to share my testimony – to encourage, inspire and uplift those who have been through the journey or maybe are walking this path. TIAH TOMLIN Tiah is an overcomer of Triple Negative Breast Can't-cer, as she calls it, she has dedicated herself to being a community change agent and advocate, with a focus on health disparities, black women's health, and healthy lifestyle education. As a result of her advocacy work, she has received recognition and awards, including President Bush’s – Point of Lights Award. After her diagnosis with breast cancer at a young age, Tiah believed that no one should walk this cancer journey alone and founded the My Breast Years Ahead sisterhood and co-founded My Style Matters, a 501c grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and supporting underserved families impacted by cancer. Tiah is a Cancer Coach, a Breast Health Educator, and a Project Lead graduate with the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). She has advocated for survivors on Capitol Hill; served as a board member and advisory board member for several organizations and pharmaceutical companies; published a research paper on Clinical Trials in Metastatic Breast Cancer; has spoken on numerous panels including the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the Congressional Briefing with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP). Through her life's work, Tiah is moving people from Awareness to Action. TAMARA LEWIS My lump was found by my nurse practitioner at my annual Wellness Women’s exam. That day, I got my first mammogram at 44 (four years late) and after several diagnostic screenings, it was clear that I had breast cancer. I was devastated. I had a moment of “Lord why me… I did everything right.” But a sense of calm came over me and my mindset shifted. “Why not me? And something BIG is going to happen because of this.” Although I had my ups and downs, my mindset and faith kept me focused. My body was in 2018 but my mind was in 2019 and 2020; holding the vision of what my world would look like after the fight. During my journey, my health educator hat came back on and I started a non-profit, Pink Pearl Hero to increase the awareness of breast cancer and to also support women who are actively going through breast cancer with our Hero Box. Through fundraising efforts, the Hero Box is and will be directly delivered to various cancer centers (Atlanta, St Louis, and Nashville), and the nurse navigators in those centers will deliver them to women actively going through treatments and surgeries. What’s unique about The Hero Box is that it not only supports women actively going through their breast cancer journey, but the key items in the box will come from women-owned businesses in an effort to support women entrepreneurs. I’m so honored that DEMIblue was one of the first woman-owned products that we partnered with. I also birthed a new baby. My plastic surgeon advised me not to carry anything over 12 pounds during my reconstruction and most of my planners exceeded that limit. With “Divine Timing” I found the world of digital planning and created a digital planner which is now known as 1DOPEplanner. It’s a digital organizational planning experience…and yes it is pretty Dope! I always refer to my breast cancer journey as my “Jonah Moment.” it was the one time that life, physically sat me down to show me a new course for my life. And I will forever be grateful for it. It was a moment of true humility, soul searching, and the rebirth of my resilience. It was far from easy… and it was constant work on my faith. I thank God for it and would never change any moment of it. It was a process that I had to go through. When I look back on the six (6) surgeries and 28 radiation treatments, they left a total of 16 scars. Some are more visible than others. I see them as tattoos of triumph, signs of strength not pain, proof that I showed up for the fight, but more importantly, someone else’s signs of hope. I embrace them all. So to my sister who may be reading this, who is going through her fight…you got this! Keep your mind in the future, nurture your body, fire up your faith and find rest in your soul. TIANA RUSSELL At the age of 28, I was in my prime, or so I thought: Marriage, son, dream career, and healthy. Six months after being married, a pea-sized lump was found in my right breast. The first doctor blew it off as a clogged milk duct, but after a third opinion from my OBGYN, he took the necessary steps to figure out what this mass was. I was told by my OBGYN, Radiologist, and Breast Surgeon that it was a benign tumor. But after my surgery to have it removed and biopsied... it turned out to be cancer, Stage 2B to be exact. The doctors were all sorry and could not believe at this early age I would have breast cancer. I was scared, and angry, but determined to beat it! After 4 surgeries, 16 rounds of chemo, and 28 rounds of radiation I thought that my life would go back to normal. No one really talks about how your life changes after cancer. There is no going back to your old life, you must learn how to deal with your new life that is filled with good and bad days, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and learning to love your new body flaws and all. Fast forward to February 2022, I am now 31 years old and just started a new job, and working towards getting my Master’s degree. After what I thought was the flu and going to urgent care, I find out that not only do I have Covid but after doing a chest x-ray, I have a mass on my right lung. My oncologist at the time was not worried, but how could you not be especially after my history? After my biopsy and pet scan, it was confirmed that my breast cancer was back and had metastasized to my lung and lymph nodes in my neck. I was devastated, like how could my cancer be back, I took the steps for it not to. But I was determined to not let this be a death sentence but to be an advocate and inspiration to all women, especially young women. I truly never understood what the phrase meant “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers” until I had breast cancer. Whether I like it or not this is my purpose, to educate, advocate and be a testimony to all! DR. She immediately followed up with her doctor, only to learn that she needed emergency surgery. Despite being in remission for over seven years, the beauty industry still wasn’t designed with survivors like her in mind. That’s when I knew something had to change. In 2017, I decided to create the solution the industry was missing.
